The compromise is at the back. With all seven seats up the boot holds 117 litres, and Auto Express found two six-foot adults could use the third row only on short trips. Euro NCAP rates it at five stars, up from the four it first awarded in July 2025.

With all seven seats in use the boot holds 117 litres, the 3rd smallest of the 29 SUVs with a published boot figure and 123 litres less than the median. With five seats in use the boot holds 494 litres, rising to a maximum of 1,930 litres.

Chery Tiggo 8 boot space is tight with every seat in use: Auto Express and carwow's specification table both give 117 litres. Fold the third row and you get 494 litres, with 1,930 litres as the maximum.

Carwow's review text quotes 700 litres with the third row folded, which conflicts with its own table and with Auto Express, so plan around 494. No source states how the figures were measured. If luggage space with seven aboard matters, compare the numbers in our 7-seater boot space guide.

How it is measured Auto Express figures; carwow's spec table also gives 117 and 494 litres, but carwow's review text quotes 700 litres with the third row folded. EV Fleet World also gives 1,930 litres maximum. Measurement basis not stated.

Third row: who fits?

Third row suitsAdults on short trips

Auto Express found two six-foot adults could use the back row on short journeys. Carwow calls it roomy for the car's size, but headroom is tight (the backrests recline to help) and thigh support is limited, so children are a better fit on long drives. The 60:40 middle row means the easier way in is from the driver's side (Auto Express), and the middle row slides forward to share out legroom (carwow).

Auto Express found two six-foot adults could use the back row on short trips. Carwow calls it roomy for the car's size but notes tight headroom, which the reclining backrests help with, and limited thigh support, so children are a better fit on long drives.

The middle row is split 60:40, which means the easier way in is from the driver's side (Auto Express), and it slides forward to share out legroom between the rows (carwow).

Chery Tiggo 8 verdict: pros and cons

Our verdict The Tiggo 8 gives you seven seats on every version and a plug-in hybrid with up to 56 miles of electric range. The boot is tiny with all seats up, the third row suits adults only on short trips and we found no braked towing figure.

Pros

  • Seven seats on every version
  • Plug-in hybrid with up to 56 miles of electric range
  • Five-star Euro NCAP rating (2025)

Cons

  • 117 litres of boot with all seven seats up
  • No braked towing figure found
  • Isofix count unclear, with sources disagreeing

Good to know

  • Euro NCAP first awarded 4 stars in July 2025, then 5 stars after Chery fixed a manufacturing fault that made a side curtain airbag deploy incorrectly; the rating is based on Tiggo 7 PHEV tests plus extra checks of the Tiggo 8's third row (Euro NCAP)
  • The Super Hybrid has an 18.4kWh battery, 56 miles of electric range, a quoted total range of 745 miles and 30 to 80 per cent DC charging in about 20 minutes (EV Fleet World)
  • Both engines have a 750kg unbraked towing limit; no braked figure was found in the sources checked (Auto Express)
  • Carwow's review text quotes 700 litres with the third row folded, against 494 litres from Auto Express and carwow's own spec table (carwow, Auto Express)
  • Chery dealer Sytner's UK range lists the Tiggo 8 with no separate Tiggo 8 Pro version (Sytner)

Practicality

Chery Tiggo 8 dimensions are 4,725mm long, 1,860mm wide without mirrors and 1,705mm tall, on a 2,710mm wheelbase. We found no width including mirrors, so measure a tight garage before you commit.

Isofix details conflict: carwow reports a pair of points in the middle row, while Auto Express counts three without saying where, so check the car in person if you need several child seats. The Super Hybrid charges from 30 to 80 per cent in about 20 minutes on a DC charger, according to EV Fleet World. For more choice at this money, see cheap 7-seater cars.

Can the Chery Tiggo 8 tow a caravan?

We could not confirm that. Auto Express lists a 750kg unbraked limit for both engines, but no braked towing figure was found in the sources we checked. Ask Chery for the braked limit in writing before buying one to pull a caravan or braked trailer.
