Cheap 7-seater cars

Cheap 7-seater cars sold new in the UK fall into two groups: budget people carriers such as the Dacia Jogger and Citroen Berlingo XL, and small SUVs with an optional third row, such as the Vauxhall Frontera. This list ranks them by the price of the cheapest version with seven seats.

A low price usually means giving something up. Before you choose, check the Euro NCAP rating and its age, the boot space with all seven seats in use and who the third row really suits, because all three vary widely between these cars.

What you give up with a cheap 7-seater

  • Safety ratings. The Dacia Jogger has one Euro NCAP star, from 2021. Euro NCAP had not rated the Vauxhall Frontera or the current Citroen C3 Aircross when reviewers covered them, and the ratings for the Citroen Berlingo XL and Peugeot E-Rifter Long, based on 2018 tests, have expired. The MG MGS9 and Chery Tiggo 8 hold five stars from 2025, the Chery after a fix to a side curtain airbag.
  • Boot space with every seat up. The C3 Aircross keeps just 40 litres with all seven seats in use, and Vauxhall publishes no figure for the Frontera. The MGS9 has 332 litres.
  • Who fits in the back. The Jogger's third row took carwow's 6ft 2in tester, and the Berlingo XL and E-Rifter Long suit average-sized adults. The Frontera, C3 Aircross and MGS9 are best for children.
  • Seven seats at extra cost. The third row is a paid option on the Frontera and C3 Aircross. The prices here include it.
  • Manual gearboxes. The cheapest versions of the Jogger, Frontera, C3 Aircross and Berlingo XL are manuals; see our automatic 7-seater cars page for the alternatives.

Budget SUV or budget people carrier

On a tight budget, a people carrier gets you more usable space. The Dacia Jogger, Citroen Berlingo XL and Vauxhall Combo Life Electric XL all have seven seats as standard, and the Berlingo XL and Combo Life add sliding side doors. The small SUVs are shorter and easier to park, at 4,385mm for the Frontera and 4,395mm for the C3 Aircross, but their third rows are for occasional use by children.

Spend a little more and the Chery Tiggo 8 and MG MGS9 bring larger SUV bodies, automatic gearboxes and plug-in hybrid power. Going electric costs more again: the Combo Life Electric XL, Citroen e-Berlingo XL and Peugeot E-Rifter Long are among the cheapest electric 7-seaters.

Cheap 7-seater cars: questions answered

Which 7-seater under £35,000 has the longest electric range?

The Vauxhall Combo Life Electric XL, with an official range of up to 213 miles.

Which of these have a third row that fits adults?

Only the Dacia Jogger.

What is the cheapest 7-seater car in the UK?

The Dacia Jogger is the cheapest new 7-seater on sale, from £18,995 for its cheapest seven-seat version. That headline price is often for a manual with basic equipment: the cheapest Dacia Jogger, for example, is the TCe 110 manual, and the automatic Hybrid 155 starts a trim higher.

What is the cheapest automatic 7-seater?

On list prices, the Dacia Jogger Hybrid 155 is the cheapest way to get seven seats with an automatic gearbox. Every model is on our automatic 7-seater cars page, sorted by price.

Which budget 7-seater has the biggest boot?

Of the cars here with a published figure, the MG MGS9 has the most space with all seven seats up, at 332 litres on carwow's figures. The Dacia Jogger offers 212 litres and the Citroen Berlingo XL 209, while the Citroen C3 Aircross manages just 40.

Is a used 7-seater better value than a cheap new one?

It can be. Traditional people carriers such as the Ford Galaxy, Volkswagen Sharan and Seat Alhambra are no longer sold new, but used examples have more boot space with all seven seats up than most new budget models. Our used 7-seaters section covers each model's years on sale and DVSA MOT pass rates.
