8-seater cars
The 8-seater cars on sale in the UK are almost all people carriers, plus one SUV: the Land Rover Defender 130, which seats eight in three rows. This list includes every model offered with eight or more seats, but not every version of each has eight, so check the table below before you shortlist.
Electric power is common, with eight-seat versions of the Citroen e-SpaceTourer, Toyota Proace Verso Electric, Peugeot E-Traveller and Ford E-Tourneo Custom. Hyundai's Staria Electric, which is coming soon, has seven or nine seats but not eight.

Eight-seat SUV or people carrier
The Defender 130 is the only SUV with eight seats, and at 5,358mm it is long. Its back bench is narrower than the middle row because it sits between the rear wheels, though carwow says three adults can squeeze in with plenty of head and leg room. Land Rover quotes up to 3,000kg braked towing and a 900mm wading depth.
Most of the people carriers cost much less, and all of them have sliding side doors. In the eight-seat Toyota Proace Verso Icon Medium, the second and third rows are each three individual seats, and the Ford Tourneo Custom's rail-mounted rear seats fold, tip forward or come out. The Citroen SpaceTourer and Proace Verso are 4,983mm long in their shorter form and 5,333mm in their longer one.

Which 8-seater has the biggest boot?
Boot figures for the eight-seat layouts are patchy. Citroen UK quotes 1,250 to 2,280 litres behind eight or nine fixed seats in the SpaceTourer, depending on the version, and carwow gives 1,030 litres behind the third row of the long Mercedes-Benz V-Class. The Land Rover Defender 130 keeps 290 litres behind its third row in eight-seat form, on carwow's figures.
Are there electric 8-seaters?
Yes. The Citroen e-SpaceTourer, Toyota Proace Verso Electric, Peugeot E-Traveller, Ford E-Tourneo Custom and Maxus Mifa 9 all offer eight seats with electric power, with official ranges of about 210 to 270 miles, and Mercedes builds the forthcoming VLE with up to eight seats.
