Land Rover 7-seater cars

The Land Rover 7-seater range takes in the Discovery, Discovery Sport, Defender 110, Defender 130 and Range Rover LWB, and their third rows differ a lot. The Discovery has seven seats as standard, the Range Rover offers them only in long-wheelbase form, and the Discovery Sport and Defender 110 add a child-sized pair as a 5+2 option. The Defender 130 seats eight, or seven with second-row captain's chairs.

For adults in the back row, look at the Discovery, Range Rover LWB and Defender 130. The plug-in hybrid Range Rover and Discovery Sport are five-seat only, and Discovery Sport production ends in December 2026.

Which Land Rover 7-seater should you choose?

  • Discovery: the all-rounder for seven people. Auto Express calls it the only car in its class that carries two fully grown adults in the back row in relative comfort, it tows 3,500kg and every UK passenger version uses the D350 diesel.
  • Range Rover LWB: the luxury choice, with heated third-row seats and 864mm of third-row legroom by Land Rover's figures. It is 5,252mm long, and the seven-seater cannot be ordered with a spare wheel.
  • Defender 130: at 5,358mm long, the one for big loads and three-abreast seating at the back. carwow says three adults can squeeze onto its third-row bench with plenty of head and leg room.
  • Defender 110: best treated as a five-seater that can carry two children. Land Rover's figures give the 5+2 third row 517mm of legroom against 975mm in the middle row.
  • Discovery Sport: compact at 4,597mm, with two extra seats that carwow rates suitable only for children.

Land Rover boot figures: dry or wet?

Land Rover publishes two sets of boot figures. Its 'wet' figures are measured by filling the space with liquid, which Drive describes as measuring to the roof, and they are larger than its 'dry' figures. A Discovery has 172 litres dry behind the third row but 258 litres wet, and a seven-seat Range Rover LWB has 212 litres dry against 312 litres wet.

Make sure you compare like with like. We show dry figures wherever Land Rover publishes them; for the Defender 130 we use the 290 litres that carwow and Auto Express quote, because Land Rover's larger figure for that car is a wet one.

Land Rover 7-seater questions

How many 7-seaters does Land Rover sell in the UK?
What is the cheapest Land Rover 7-seater?

Of the four with a published price, the Land Rover Discovery Sport is the cheapest, from £51,850.

Which Land Rover 7-seater has the biggest boot?

The Land Rover Defender 130, with 290 litres with all seven seats in use.

Does Land Rover make an electric or hybrid 7-seater?

Land Rover has no electric 7-seater on sale in the UK. None of its 7-seaters is a full or plug-in hybrid, though the Land Rover Discovery, the Range Rover LWB, the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Land Rover Defender 130 are offered with mild hybrid engines.

Which Land Rover is a 7-seater?

The Discovery has seven seats as standard. The Range Rover offers seven seats in long-wheelbase form, the Defender 110 and Discovery Sport have an optional 5+2 third row, and the Defender 130 has eight seats, or seven with second-row captain's chairs. Every Land Rover seven-seater is an SUV.

Which Land Rover 7-seater has the most third-row space?

The Range Rover LWB and Discovery are the best for adults. Land Rover quotes 864mm of legroom and 909mm of headroom in the Range Rover's third row, and Drive judges it properly usable for grown-ups. The Discovery's raised stadium-style seating leaves decent headroom, though carwow says only passengers under six feet get adequate knee room. carwow also rates the Defender 130's back bench roomy enough for three adults.

Can a Land Rover 7-seater tow 3,500kg?

Yes. The Discovery and Range Rover LWB are rated at 3,500kg braked and the Defender 110 5+2 at 3,495kg. Land Rover quotes up to 3,000kg for the Defender 130 and up to 2,500kg for the Discovery Sport.
