Toyota 7-seater cars

A new Toyota 7-seater is now an electric, van-based people carrier: the Proace City Verso Electric in long L2 form, or the larger Proace Verso Electric, which has exactly seven seats only in Excel Long trim and eight or nine in other versions.

Toyota's seven-seat SUVs have left the new-car range. The Highlander hybrid is no longer sold new, and the Land Cruiser became a five-seater for the 2026 model year. For a hybrid Toyota seven-seater, look at a used Highlander or Prius+; the Verso MPV, sold until 2018, came with petrol or diesel engines.

Which Toyota 7-seater should you choose?

New, the Proace City Verso Electric L2 is the compact option at 4,751mm, with a removable third row, a 50kWh battery and up to 212 miles of range. The Proace Verso Electric is bigger, at 4,983mm in Medium form or 5,333mm as a Long, with rail-mounted rear seats that fold, tilt forward or lift out and up to 214 miles from its 75kWh battery. Only the Excel Long has two middle-row captain's chairs and exactly seven seats.

Used, the Toyota Highlander is a seven-seat hybrid SUV sold new from 2021, with a 2.5-litre petrol engine, electric motors and four-wheel drive, and 332 litres of boot space with every seat up (Auto Express). The Prius+, sold from 2012 to 2020, is a hybrid MPV that Honest John credits with an excellent reliability record, and the Verso (2009 to 2018) is a petrol or diesel MPV. Both MPVs have third rows best kept for children.

Is the Toyota Land Cruiser still a 7-seater?

No. When the current Land Cruiser reached the UK in 2024, both the Invincible and First Edition had seven seats as standard, but Toyota UK made the model year 2026 Hybrid 48V a five-seater. Toyota says the 48V battery under the floor led to a redesigned luggage area with a flat floor. Our Toyota Land Cruiser 7-seater page explains the change and suggests seven-seat alternatives.

Toyota 7-seater questions

How many 7-seaters does Toyota sell in the UK?
Does Toyota make a 7-seater?

Yes, but only as electric people carriers. The Proace City Verso Electric L2 and the Proace Verso Electric Excel Long have exactly seven seats, and other Proace Verso versions seat eight or nine. Toyota no longer sells a seven-seat SUV new: the Highlander has been dropped and the Land Cruiser is now a five-seater.

Is there a Toyota hybrid 7-seater?

Not as a new car. The Highlander hybrid SUV and the Prius+ hybrid MPV both have seven seats, but they are only available used. The new Proace City Verso and Proace Verso are fully electric. See our list of hybrid 7-seaters for new alternatives.
