7-seater MPVs and people carriers
A 7-seater MPV, or people carrier, gives you more room in the third row and more boot space with every seat in use than most SUVs. This list covers every MPV on sale or coming soon in the UK with seven or more seats, from the Dacia Jogger and Citroen Berlingo XL to the Volkswagen Multivan and Mercedes-Benz V-Class.
Most of today's people carriers are based on vans, which brings tall bodies, sliding doors and seats that slide or lift out, but also more height to fit into car parks and garages. Car-based MPVs such as the Ford Galaxy and Volkswagen Touran are no longer sold new.

Why a people carrier beats an SUV for seven
Compare the numbers with all seven seats in use. The Volkswagen Caddy Maxi Life and Ford Grand Tourneo Connect quote 446 litres behind the third row and the Volkswagen Multivan 469, measured to the roof, while most 7-seater SUVs have between about 150 and 350 litres. The Mercedes-Benz V-Class and EQV go further, at 1,030 litres on carwow's figures.
The third row is roomier too. Reviewers rate the back seats of the Multivan, Volkswagen ID. Buzz LWB, V-Class, EQV and Peugeot E-Traveller for adults, and the Citroen Berlingo XL and Peugeot E-Rifter Long for average-sized adults. Sliding side doors, fitted to most van-based models, make loading children easier where parking spaces are tight. These people carriers have the most space behind the third row:

Check these before buying a van-based people carrier
- Height. Every van-based model we list with a published height stands at least 1,800mm tall: the Citroen Berlingo XL is 1,818mm, the Volkswagen Multivan 1,907mm and the ID. Buzz LWB 1,923mm. Check multi-storey car parks and your garage.
- Safety ratings. The Volkswagen Caddy and Ford Grand Tourneo Connect share a five-star Euro NCAP result from 2021, and Auto Express reports the ID. Buzz kept five stars in a 2025 retest. The 2018 ratings behind the Berlingo XL and Peugeot E-Rifter Long have expired, and we found no Euro NCAP rating for the Kia PV5 Passenger or Toyota Proace Verso Electric.
- Towing. Limits are often low or missing: carwow says the electric Berlingo XL has no towing rating, Auto Express says a tow bar cannot be fitted to the E-Rifter Long, and the PV5 is rated at 750kg.
- Which version has seven seats. Several are seven-seaters only in long-body form, including the Berlingo XL, Vauxhall Combo Life Electric XL and Toyota Proace City Verso L2, and Ford's Tourneo Custom has eight or nine seats with no seven-seat version.
The car-based MPVs you can still buy used
Ford stopped selling the Galaxy and S-Max new in 2023, Seat's Alhambra went in 2020, and Volkswagen dropped the Sharan in 2021 and the Touran in 2025. The Sharan and Alhambra had sliding rear doors.
