Mercedes 7-seater cars

A Mercedes 7-seater can be a compact SUV, a large SUV or a people carrier. The GLB has seven seats as standard, whether you choose the petrol hybrid or the electric GLB with EQ Technology. Among the large SUVs, the GLE offers seven seats on its diesels, the GLS has them as standard and the electric EQS SUV can have a third row.

Third-row space varies widely. Reviewers rate the GLB's for teenagers and the GLE's for children, while carwow says even tall passengers can use the GLS's. For adults in every seat, the V-Class and electric EQV people carriers have sliding doors and 1,030 litres behind the third row (carwow). The electric EQB is a used option.

Which Mercedes 7-seater should you choose?

  • GLB and GLB with EQ Technology: compact SUVs, 4,732mm long, with up to five Isofix points including both third-row seats. The petrol GLB is a full hybrid; the electric version offers up to 380 miles of range and a 127-litre front boot. Auto Express says most adults will not be comfortable in the back row.
  • GLE: a large SUV with seven seats only on the GLE 350 d and 450 d diesels. Drive finds its third row tighter than in an Audi Q7, Land Rover Discovery or Volvo XC90.
  • GLS: the large SUV for adults in the third row, with 355 litres of boot space behind it (Mercedes UK) and a 3,500kg towing limit, though carwow says it has not been crash tested by Euro NCAP.
  • EQS SUV: electric, with up to 364 miles of range (Mercedes UK), but Parkers says the third row is an option and carwow quotes only 195 litres of boot space with all seven seats up.
  • V-Class and EQV: diesel and electric people carriers with electric sliding doors and room for adults in every row. CAR expects the electric VLE to replace the EQV when it arrives and to take over from the V-Class in 2027.
