Kia 7-seater cars

The Kia 7-seater range runs from the Sorento SUV, with diesel, hybrid or plug-in hybrid power, to the electric EV9 SUV and the electric PV5 Passenger people carrier. The Sorento and EV9 have seven seats as standard on every UK version.

The Sorento is one of the few seven-seat SUVs still sold with a diesel engine, and it tows up to 2,500kg. The EV9 is longer, at 5,010mm against 4,815mm, with 333 litres of boot space behind the third row against the Sorento's 179, and carwow fitted three six-foot adults one behind the other. The older Carens MPV is available used.

Which Kia 7-seater should you choose?

The Kia Sorento is the all-rounder. Every version has all-wheel drive and four Isofix points, two of them in the third row, and the diesel's 2,500kg towing limit beats the hybrid's 2,000kg and the plug-in hybrid's 1,700kg. Its third row suits children and adults on short trips; Auto Express measured 607mm of knee room back there.

The Kia EV9 is the one for adults in the back. Range runs up to 349 miles for the rear-wheel-drive Air, though that version can tow only 900kg braked against 2,500kg for the dual-motor cars. The GT-Line S and GT can be ordered as six-seaters with individual middle-row chairs.

The PV5 Passenger seven-seater has two seats in the middle row and three in the back, sliding doors on both sides and 318 litres behind the third row. It comes only with the 71.2kWh Long Range battery, with a target range of 246 miles pending homologation. No independent test of its third row had been published when we checked, and the Elite version cannot tow.
