Of the best 7-seater cars on sale in the UK, the Skoda Kodiaq suits the most families, with a big boot behind all seven seats and a five-star Euro NCAP rating from 2024. On a tight budget, the Dacia Jogger fits adults in its third row for far less, despite a one-star safety rating, and if adults will use the back row every week, look at the Kia EV9.
Each award below goes to one car, chosen from our data on third-row space, boot space with all seven seats up, Isofix points, price, Euro NCAP results and running costs, and each pick names its main drawback. No manufacturer pays to appear here, and we do not road test cars: the figures come from manufacturers and named independent reviewers.
The Kodiaq is the easiest 7-seater to recommend. Skoda quotes 340 litres of boot space with all seven seats up, among the most of any family SUV, and Euro NCAP gave it five stars in 2024. With two Isofix points in the middle row and one on the front passenger seat, it takes three child seats, and every trim can have seven seats with petrol, diesel or mild hybrid power. The catch: reviewers see the third row as one for children, and the plug-in hybrid is a five-seater.
Every Jogger has seven seats, and carwow's 6ft 2in tester fitted in the third row, which many far pricier SUVs cannot match. Dacia quotes 212 litres with all seats up (160 on the VDA measure), each third-row seat weighs about 10kg and lifts out, and the Hybrid 155 brings an automatic gearbox. The big drawback is safety: Euro NCAP awarded one star in 2021, relying mainly on Sandero Stepway results, and noted the third-row seats have no seatbelt reminders.
Carwow fitted three six-foot adults one behind the other in the EV9, in both its six and seven-seat forms, and Honest John found enough headroom to sit upright in the back. Buttons tilt and slide the middle seats for access, there are Isofix points in the third row, and the boot still holds 333 litres with every seat up. Euro NCAP gave it five stars in 2023. The drawbacks are its size, at 5,010mm long, and the entry Air, which can tow only 900kg.
The Santa Fe has four Isofix points, two on the middle bench and two on the third-row seats, so Isofix seats fit in both rear rows without using the front passenger seat. Third-row passengers get their own air-conditioning controls, cupholders and USB-C sockets, a button powers the middle seat forward for access, and reviewers rate the back row for average-sized adults. Hyundai publishes no boot figure with all seven seats up, though, and Euro NCAP's four stars rise to five only with the optional safety pack.
With all seven seats in place, the V-Class Long still has 1,030 litres behind the third row on carwow's figures, and the Extra Long has 1,410: several times what most SUVs manage. The seats run on floor rails, so space can shift between passengers and luggage, every row has room for adults, and electric sliding doors are standard on both sides. The drawbacks: it is diesel only, 5,140mm long and 1,901mm tall, and its five-star Euro NCAP rating dates from 2014.
Carwow found five six-foot adults could sit comfortably across the Multivan's two rear rows, and all five rear seats slide individually and lift out. Each of them has an Isofix point, the big sliding doors leave a wide opening, and the standard-wheelbase car has 469 litres behind the third row, measured to the roof. Diesel, petrol and plug-in hybrid versions are offered, the last with up to 57 miles of electric range. Carwow reports four Euro NCAP stars after a 2025 retest, down from five in 2022.
The E-5008 has one of the longest official ranges of any electric 7-seater: up to 414 miles with the 97kWh Long Range battery, or 310 miles for the entry 73kWh car. Every version has seven seats, Peugeot quotes 348 litres of boot space with all of them up (Auto Express quotes 259), and a 20 to 80 per cent rapid charge takes about 30 minutes. The compromises are a knees-up third row that suits adults only on short trips, a 1,000kg towing limit and a four-star Euro NCAP rating.
Every Sorento has seven seats and all-wheel drive, and the self-charging hybrid keeps both while towing up to 2,000kg. There are four Isofix points, two of them in the third row, Euro NCAP awarded five stars in 2020, and the diesel and plug-in hybrid are seven-seaters too. Reviewers find the back row fine for adults on short trips. The weak points are a 179-litre boot with all seats up and third-row airbags, which are standard only on the top Aspire trim.
The MGS9 has seven seats as standard, up to 62 miles of electric range from its 24.7kWh battery, 332 litres of boot space with every seat up and a five-star Euro NCAP rating from 2025. It can tow 2,000kg, and MG's warranty runs for seven years or 80,000 miles. Reviewers rate the third row for children, though, and there is no rapid charging: a full charge takes about four hours on a 7.4kW wallbox.
The Discovery is rated to tow 3,500kg, the highest limit of any 7-seater, shared with a handful of other SUVs, and its D350 diesel produces 700Nm. It can wade through 900mm of water, the seats fold at the touch of a button, and Auto Express calls it the only car in its class that can carry two fully grown adults in the back row in relative comfort. The drawbacks are a 172-litre boot with seven seats up, on Land Rover's dry measure, and a Euro NCAP rating from 2017.
We judge every current 7-seater in our data on the same evidence:
Third-row space: what independent reviewers found when they sat in the back, on our five-step scale from children to adults.
Boot space with all seven seats up: the manufacturer's figure where one is published, with conflicting reviewer figures noted.
Isofix: the number of points and where they are, especially in the third row.
Price: the list price of the cheapest version that actually has seven seats.
Safety: the Euro NCAP star rating and its age. Expired ratings, untested cars and low scores count against a model.
Running costs: the fuel types available with seven seats, electric range, towing limits and warranty length.
A car can only win on figures that apply to its seven-seat versions, so a plug-in hybrid sold only with five seats does not count towards a hybrid award. We do not drive the cars ourselves; we compare published data and independent reviews. There are no paid placements, and manufacturers have no say in the results. Our page on how we research explains the checks behind every figure.

For most families, the Skoda Kodiaq: it combines one of the biggest SUV boots with all seven seats up, three Isofix points and a five-star Euro NCAP rating from 2024. The right answer depends on your priorities, though. The Dacia Jogger costs far less and fits adults in its third row, the Kia EV9 is the SUV for tall passengers in the back, and the Volkswagen Multivan seats adults in every row.
What is the best 7-seater SUV?
Our pick is the Skoda Kodiaq. The Kia Sorento is the stronger choice if you want four-wheel drive, four Isofix points and seven seats on every version, and the Hyundai Santa Fe has a roomier third row. For an electric SUV, the Peugeot E-5008 has one of the longest ranges and the Kia EV9 fits six-footers in the back. Browse every 7-seater SUV with its boot and third-row ratings.
Which 7-seater is the safest?
Euro NCAP ratings are the best guide, but check the year as well as the stars. Among recent tests, the Volvo EX90 scored 92% for adult and 93% for child occupant protection in 2025, according to carwow, and the MG MGS9, Volkswagen Tayron and Skoda Kodiaq hold five stars from 2024 or 2025.
Some well-known 7-seaters have weaker or older results. The Dacia Jogger has one star, the Volvo XC90's five stars date from 2015 and have expired, and the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS have not been tested. Each model page shows the rating and the year it was awarded.
Which 7-seater is the most reliable?
Brand-new models have no long-term reliability record, so we do not rank new cars on reliability. Each model page lists DVSA recall records, refreshed every month, and our used 7-seater pages show DVSA MOT pass rates for older models.
When you buy new, warranty length is the clearest signal. Mitsubishi covers the Outlander PHEV for eight years or 100,000 miles, Jaecoo the 8 for seven years or 100,000 miles, and MG the MGS9 for seven years or 80,000 miles.
