Seven seats are an option only on the four-wheel-drive e-4ORCE, and the third row is for children.
Quick answer
Yes, in some versions. Seven seats are a £1,000 option only on the four-wheel-drive e-Power e-4ORCE versions; the front-wheel-drive e-Power is sold as a five-seater only.
Best for Families who need seven seats only occasionally
Since the 2026 facelift every new Nissan X-Trail has been an e-Power hybrid, so a seven-seat X-Trail means a four-wheel-drive e-4ORCE, with no diesel or plug-in hybrid alternative.
Reviewers see the third row as space for children on short trips, and with all seven seats in use the boot shrinks to 177 litres. That makes the X-Trail 7-seater a five-seater with two occasional extra seats rather than a full-time seven-seater.

With all seven seats in use the boot holds 177 litres, the 9th smallest of the 29 SUVs with a published boot figure and 63 litres less than the median. With five seats in use the boot holds 485 litres, rising to a maximum of 1,298 litres.
The seven-seat layout costs boot space even when you do not use it. With the third row folded the seven-seater holds 485 litres, against 575 for a five-seat e-Power, and carwow quotes a maximum of 1,298 litres for the seven-seater, though Auto Express gives up to 1,396.
The 177-litre figure for all seven seats up comes from the RAC rather than Nissan. If you need room for seven people and their luggage, our comparison of 7-seater boot space shows which rivals carry more.
How it is measured Basis not stated. 177 litres with all seven seats up is from the RAC. 485 litres is the seven-seat car with its third row folded (Auto Express, RAC); five-seat e-Power models have 575 litres (Nissan UK). 1,298 litres maximum for the seven-seater is from carwow; Auto Express quotes up to 1,396 litres.
At 4,690mm (4.69m, 15ft 5in) long, the X-Trail is 184mm shorter than the median SUV, and the 4th shortest of the 37 SUVs we track. It is 1,840mm wide without mirrors and 1,725mm tall. The wheelbase, the distance between the front and rear axles, is 2,705mm.
Third row suitsChildren
Knee room and head room in the back row are tight, and most reviewers see it as somewhere for children on short or occasional trips. Getting in means wriggling through a narrow gap because the middle-row seats do not move far forward. With all seven seats in use the boot drops to 177 litres.
Buy the seven-seat X-Trail if you carry two extra children now and then, not every day. Both Isofix points are on the outer middle-row seats and there are none in the third row, so younger children in car seats have to sit in row two.
Carwow rates the back row of the Skoda Kodiaq as on a par with the X-Trail's for space and access, so neither is the answer for regular adult use. For that, start with the 7-seaters with the most third-row space.
2Isofix points
The X-Trail has two Isofix points: outer seats in row 2. None are in the third row.

From£47,145
carwow RRP for the N-Trek 1.5 e-Power e-4ORCE 213 seven-seater, the cheapest seven-seat version in carwow's list (the Tekna seven-seater is £48,220). Auto Express says the third row can be added to any trim with e-4ORCE for £1,000, which would mean a cheaper seven-seat Acenta Premium, but Nissan UK's configurator could not be read to settle this. Nissan UK prices the range from £38,850 (five-seat Acenta Premium e-Power).

X-TRAIL T33 Lithium Ion Battery
For affected vehicles the lithium-ion battery controller (LBC) on some X-Trail (T33) vehicles may not properly maintain diagnostic robustness. It has been found that these ICs may misdiagnose abnormalities and as a result the system may enter fail-safe mode during driving which restricts motor output and prohibits charging. Under certain conditions a loss of motive power may occur and the vehicle may stop while driving due to the loss of propulsion.

Our verdict The X-Trail works best as a five-seater with two occasional seats: the third row is for children and the boot falls to 177 litres with every seat in use. Seven seats also tie you to the four-wheel-drive e-4ORCE.
Seven seats come only with e-4ORCE four-wheel drive, so the cheapest seven-seat X-Trail costs more than the cheapest five-seater. Every version is automatic, and the e-Power hybrid does not need to be plugged in.
The X-Trail is 4,690mm long, 1,840mm wide without mirrors and 1,725mm tall. Auto Express reports that an all-new X-Trail is due in the UK in 2028, so this facelifted model is the one you will find in showrooms until then.
177 litres with all seven seats in use, 485 litres with five seats in use and a maximum of 1,298 litres.
The Nissan X-Trail is 4,690mm long (4.69m, 15ft 5in), 1,840mm wide without its mirrors and 1,725mm tall.
Two: outer seats in row 2. There are no Isofix points in the third row.
Not comfortably. The third row is best kept for children.
Sources disagree. Auto Express says the third row can be added to any trim once you choose e-4ORCE four-wheel drive, while carwow lists seven-seat versions only for N-Trek and Tekna.
The front-wheel-drive e-Power is a five-seater whatever the trim. Ask the dealer to confirm the seat count of the exact car in writing before you order.
No. Every new X-Trail is an e-Power hybrid with a small 1.73kWh battery, and it cannot be plugged in. Nissan dropped the 163PS mild hybrid petrol, which had also been offered with seven seats, in the 2026 facelift.
For a seven-seat plug-in hybrid of a similar size, look at the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, though only its entry Nativa trim has seven seats.
Auto Express quotes 1,650kg braked for the seven-seat e-4ORCE, a little less than the 1,800kg of the five-seat e-4ORCE. The front-wheel-drive e-Power, which is five-seat only, can tow just 670kg.
If you tow a caravan, the four-wheel-drive car is the one to buy, whatever the seat count.
