Quick answer

Is the Skoda Kodiaq a 7-seater?

Yes, in some versions. Every UK trim (SE, Edition X, SE L, SportLine, L&K and vRS) can be had with seven seats alongside a petrol, mild hybrid or diesel engine, but the 1.5 TSI iV plug-in hybrid is five-seat only.

On the Skoda Kodiaq the third row is an option rather than standard, so check the spec of any Kodiaq 7-seater you are offered, new or used.

Skoda quotes 340 litres of boot with all seven seats up, and three Isofix points, one of them on the front passenger seat, let you fit three child seats. Reviewers say the third row is best kept for children. On paper the Kodiaq is closely matched with the Volkswagen Tayron and Peugeot 5008.

With all seven seats in use the boot holds 340 litres, the 5th largest of the 29 SUVs with a published boot figure and 100 litres more than the median. With five seats in use the boot holds 845 litres, rising to a maximum of 2,035 litres.

Choosing the Kodiaq 7-seater costs some luggage space even when the third row is folded. Skoda quotes 845 litres behind the middle row for the seven-seater against 910 for the five-seat car, and 2,035 litres against 2,105 with both rear rows folded. Carwow's review quotes 345 litres with all seven seats up, close to Skoda's 340.

The plug-in hybrid has the smallest boot in the range, 745 and 1,945 litres, because its battery takes up space under the boot floor.

How it is measured Skoda UK figures for the seven-seat car: 340 litres with all seats up, 845 with the third row folded and 2,035 with both rear rows folded. The five-seat car offers 910 and 2,105 litres and the five-seat iV 745 and 1,945. Measuring method not stated.

Third row: who fits?

Third row suitsChildren

carwow treats the back row as occasional seating that suits children better than adults on long journeys, with space and access on a par with a Nissan X-Trail. Auto Express finds it slightly tighter than rivals, although getting in is reasonably easy. The third row only folds once the middle row has been slid forward (carwow).

The Kodiaq's back row is occasional seating, best kept for children. Reviewers rate it below the Peugeot 5008's, which they consider fine for adults on short trips, and the middle row slides, so you can trade legroom between the two rear rows.

The Kodiaq's real strength is child seats. With Isofix on both outer middle-row seats and on the front passenger seat, it takes three Isofix child seats, though none can go in the third row. Our guide to 7-seaters with three Isofix points lists the alternatives.

Isofix and child seats

3Isofix points

The Kodiaq has three Isofix points: outer seats in row 2 and front passenger seat. None are in the third row. That is enough for three Isofix child seats, though whether three fit side by side depends on the seats you choose.

DVSA recalls

The DVSA lists one recall for the Kodiaq:

  1. 20 February 2026 · Ref R/2026/083 · 3,572 vehicles

    Seat backrest frame cover

Škoda Auto has discovered that there is a risk with the Kodiaq model from a limited production period that the edge of the inner frame of the front seats may compromise the integrity of the side airbag when activated. This situation may reduce the protective effect of the side airbag which could result in an increased risk of injury to passengers in the event of an accident. For safety reasons your vehicle must be repaired. We strongly recommend that you contact an authorized Škoda service center as soon as possible to arrange a repair date. In the first instance we ask that you contact your local ŠKODA authorised repairer as soon as possible to make an appointment. The ŠKODA authorised repairer closest to you can be found on https://tools.skoda.co.uk/find-a-retailer

Remedy: The vehicle will be fitted with sharp edge protection for the inner frame of the front seats to prevent damage to the integrity of the side airbag when it is deployed.

Skoda Kodiaq verdict: pros and cons

Our verdict The Kodiaq suits families who need three child seats and a strong tow rating: it has three Isofix points, five Euro NCAP stars and up to 2,500kg of braked towing. The third row is for children, and the plug-in hybrid has only five seats.

Pros

  • Three Isofix points, including the front passenger seat
  • Seven seats offered on every trim, from SE to vRS
  • Up to 2,500kg braked towing on some 4x4 versions

Cons

  • Third row best kept for children
  • Plug-in hybrid is five-seat only
  • Seven seats cost extra and trim the five-seat boot

Good to know

  • The 1.5 TSI iV plug-in hybrid is sold only as a five-seater because its battery takes up space under the boot floor (Auto Express)
  • Euro NCAP's five-star 2024 rating also covers the iV plug-in hybrid after extra tests and checks (Euro NCAP)
  • With an ISOFIX point on the front passenger seat as well as two in the middle row, the Kodiaq can carry three child seats (carwow)
  • Skoda lists braked towing from 1,800kg for the 1.5 TSI e-TEC up to 2,500kg for some 4x4 versions, while Auto Express quotes 2,300kg for the 193PS diesel 4x4 (Skoda UK, Auto Express)
  • carwow and Auto Express give the height as 1,659mm against Skoda's 1,678mm with roof rails, and carwow's review quotes 345 litres with seven seats up against Skoda's 340 (carwow, Auto Express, Skoda UK)

Practicality

Every Kodiaq has an automatic DSG gearbox, and the 193PS diesel and both 2.0 TSI petrols come with four-wheel drive, which also brings the highest towing limits. This second-generation Kodiaq went on sale in the UK in 2024.

Skoda quotes a height of 1,678mm with roof rails, while carwow and Auto Express give 1,659mm, and the 1,864mm width published by review sites does not say whether mirrors are included, so allow a margin if your garage is tight.

Skoda Kodiaq FAQs

How big is the Skoda Kodiaq boot with all seven seats up?

340 litres with all seven seats in use, 845 litres with five seats in use and a maximum of 2,035 litres.

How long is the Skoda Kodiaq?

The Skoda Kodiaq is 4,758mm long (4.76m, 15ft 7in), 1,864mm wide without its mirrors and 1,678mm tall.

How many Isofix points does the Skoda Kodiaq have?

Three: outer seats in row 2 and front passenger seat. There are no Isofix points in the third row.

Can adults sit in the third row of the Skoda Kodiaq?

Not comfortably. The third row is best kept for children.

Can you get the Skoda Kodiaq plug-in hybrid with seven seats?

No. The 1.5 TSI iV plug-in hybrid is sold only as a five-seater because its battery takes up space under the boot floor, Auto Express explains. It also has less boot space than a seven-seat Kodiaq with its third row folded.

If you want seven seats and a plug, the Peugeot 5008 plug-in hybrid keeps all seven. Our list of plug-in hybrid 7-seaters shows the rest.

How much can a Skoda Kodiaq tow?

It depends on the engine. Skoda lists braked towing from 1,800kg for the 1.5 TSI e-TEC mild hybrid up to 2,500kg for some 4x4 versions, while Auto Express quotes 2,300kg for the 193PS diesel 4x4.

For a heavy caravan, shortlist the four-wheel-drive diesel and petrol versions and confirm the figure for the exact car.

How does the Skoda Kodiaq compare with the Volkswagen Tayron?

On paper they are close. The Tayron is 4,792mm long to the Kodiaq's 4,758mm, and Volkswagen quotes 345 litres with seven seats up against Skoda's 340. Both have three Isofix points including the front passenger seat, both tow up to 2,500kg, both plug-in hybrids are five-seaters, and reviewers rate both third rows for children.

Skoda quotes 2,035 litres with both rear rows folded, against the 1,905 litres Auto Express and Carbuyer give for the Tayron, though those figures come from different sources.
