The Tiguan Allspace replacement: seven seats on every non-plug-in version and 345 litres behind them.
Quick answer
Yes. All UK petrol, mild hybrid and diesel Tayrons have seven seats, while the eHybrid plug-in hybrids are five-seaters only.
Best for Families who want a usable boot with all seven seats up
The VW Tayron 7-seater replaced the Tiguan Allspace and keeps a usable 345 litres of boot space with all seven seats up. The third row is best kept for children and teenagers, which is how Volkswagen itself pitches it, and the eHybrid plug-in hybrids lose it altogether because the battery takes its space. Euro NCAP gave the Tayron five stars in 2025.

With all seven seats in use the boot holds 345 litres, the 4th largest of the 29 SUVs with a published boot figure and 105 litres more than the median. With five seats in use the boot holds 850 litres, rising to a maximum of 1,905 litres.
A 345-litre boot with every seat in use is a genuine strength: enough for school bags and sports kit, or a big food shop. Fold the third row and it grows to 850 litres, more than the 705 litres in the five-seat eHybrid, so the seven-seat Tayron is also the one with the bigger five-seat boot.
Volkswagen does not say how it measures these figures, so compare them with care against cars measured another way. Our 7-seater boot space comparison lines them up.
How it is measured Volkswagen UK quotes 345 litres with the third row up and 850 with it folded; the 1,905-litre maximum comes from Auto Express and Carbuyer. The five-seat eHybrid has 705 litres (Volkswagen UK). Measuring method not stated.
At 4,792mm (4.79m, 15ft 9in) long, the Tayron is 82mm shorter than the median SUV, and the 13th shortest of the 37 SUVs we track. It is 1,853mm wide without mirrors and 1,668mm tall. The wheelbase, the distance between the front and rear axles, is 2,788mm.
Third row suitsChildren
carwow says four six-footers can just about share the two rear rows, but recommends seats six and seven for children. Auto Express found that anyone taller than average sits with knees against the middle-row backrests and little thigh support, though the middle row slides forward to free up space. Volkswagen itself pitches the third row at children and teenagers rather than tall adults.
Keep the third row for children and teenagers. Adults of average height or more will not be comfortable for long, so with grown-ups aboard the Tayron works best as a five-seater with the third row as back-up. Sliding the middle row forward shares out the legroom when every seat is filled.
Child seats with Isofix belong in the middle row or the front passenger seat. To compare cars that take three child seats, see our guide to 7-seaters with three Isofix points.
3Isofix points
The Tayron has three Isofix points: two in row 2 and one on the front passenger seat. None are in the third row. That is enough for three Isofix child seats, though whether three fit side by side depends on the seats you choose.

Our verdict The Tayron gets the basics right: seven seats on every non-plug-in version, a 345-litre boot with all seats up and a five-star Euro NCAP rating from 2025. The third row is for children and teenagers, and the plug-in hybrids are five-seat only.
At 4,792mm long and 1,853mm wide without mirrors, or 1,866mm on R-Line, the Tayron is a manageable size for a seven-seat SUV. Its five-star Euro NCAP rating is recent, from 2025, so it was tested against current standards rather than a rating carried over from an older model.
If you tow, check the limit for your engine, as it varies widely across the range. Compare it with other 7-seater SUVs before you decide.

Not comfortably. The third row is best kept for children.
No. Both eHybrid plug-in hybrids, the 204 and the 272, are five-seaters, because the battery takes the space the third row would use, and the boot is 705 litres. For seven seats, choose the 1.5 eTSI, the 2.0 TDI or one of the 2.0 TSI petrols.
For seven seats and a plug, see our list of plug-in hybrid 7-seaters.
It depends on the engine. Carbuyer lists braked limits of 1,800kg for the 1.5 eTSI, 2,000kg for the 2.0 TDI, 2,400kg for the 2.0 TSI 204 and 2,500kg for the 2.0 TSI 265, while Auto Express gives 2,400kg for both 2.0 TSI engines. For a heavy caravan, a 2.0 TSI 4MOTION is the one to pick.
The Tayron. It replaced the Tiguan Allspace and sits between the Tiguan and the Touareg in Volkswagen's range. If you are buying used, our used VW Tiguan Allspace page covers the outgoing seven-seater.
