With all seven seats in use the boot holds 306 litres, the 4th smallest of the 11 van-based MPVs with a published boot figure and 129 litres less than the median. With five seats in use the boot holds 1,340 litres, rising to a maximum of 2,496 litres.

  3. Volkswagen ID. Buzz LWB306 L
  4. Smallest: Citroen Berlingo XL209 L

A 306-litre boot with all seven seats in use is enough for school bags and a big food shop, and the space grows to 1,340 litres with the third row folded, according to Auto Express and EV Powered. Because the third-row seats can be taken out altogether, the Buzz can also play small van for a house move or a trip to the tip.

See how it compares in our 7-seater boot space comparison.

How it is measured Volkswagen's brochure gives 306 litres with all three rows in use (basis not stated). The 1,340 litre figure with the third row folded comes from Auto Express and EV Powered, as no Volkswagen UK figure was found. The maximum is the 'up to 2,496 litres' quoted on Volkswagen's UK site; EV Powered lists 2,469 litres with the seats folded.

Third row: who fits?

Third row suitsAdults

Auto Express says adults can get into the third row with dignity, helped by the wide sliding side doors. It rates third-row space as nearly as good as the middle row and bright enough to keep adults happy on long journeys. The third row can be taken out, and the middle row is a 60:40 split folding bench.

If you need to carry several young children, the Buzz deserves a close look. Isofix points on the outer seats of both rear rows mean four child seats can go in at once, and the wide sliding doors make lifting children in easier in tight parking bays.

Adults are just as welcome, and if you rarely use the third row it can be removed. The split middle bench lets you fold part of it for longer items and still seat passengers.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz LWB verdict: pros and cons

Our verdict The ID. Buzz LWB is a genuine seven-seat electric people carrier: adults fit in the third row, four Isofix points cover both rear rows and the sliding doors make loading children easy. Its height and modest towing limits on Life and Style are the main drawbacks.

Pros

  • Third row suits adults and can be removed
  • Four Isofix points across the two rear rows
  • Sliding side doors and up to 298 miles of range

Cons

  • 1,923mm tall, so check car park height limits
  • Braked towing is 1,000kg on Life and Style
  • Range falls to 278 miles in GTX form

Good to know

  • The seven-seat LWB is rated at 298 miles WLTP as a Life, 293 miles as a Style and 278 miles as a GTX (Volkswagen UK brochure)
  • Braked towing for the seven-seat LWB is 1,000kg in Life and Style trims and 1,600kg for the GTX 4MOTION, whereas Auto Express quotes a 750kg limit (Volkswagen UK brochure, Auto Express)
  • Picking six seats instead of seven saves £156 in every LWB trim (Volkswagen UK price list)
  • Volkswagen's own figures vary: its UK site quotes up to 2,496 litres of luggage space (EV Powered gives 2,469 litres) and its brochure lists a 1,923mm height against 1,927mm on its specifications page (Volkswagen UK, EV Powered)
  • Euro NCAP awarded five stars in 2022, and Auto Express reports the ID. Buzz kept five stars when retested in 2025 (Euro NCAP, Auto Express)

Practicality

At 1,923mm tall, the Buzz is worth checking against height barriers in multi-storey car parks and your garage door. Range is best in Life trim at 298 miles; the four-wheel-drive GTX trades some range for more power and the highest towing limit, 1,600kg braked against 1,000kg for Life and Style.
