Ford 7-seater cars

A new Ford 7-seater now means the Grand Tourneo Connect, a van-based people carrier with seven seats as standard on every version in Ford's UK price list and a choice of petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid power. The bigger Tourneo Custom seats eight or nine rather than seven.

Ford stopped building the Galaxy and S-Max in April 2023, so both are now used buys. The Galaxy is the better bet for adults in the back row, while reviewers say the S-Max's rearmost seats are really for children. The smaller Grand C-Max, sold until 2019, is a 5+2 with a child-sized third row.

Which Ford 7-seater should you choose?

New, the Grand Tourneo Connect is the one to look at. Ford quotes 446 litres behind the third row and 3,105 litres behind the front seats, tall sliding side doors make loading child seats easy, and the plug-in hybrid offers 70.5 miles of electric range. carwow quotes less space, 322 litres with seven seats up, and says the back pair of seats gives two children enough room on long trips. Its five-star Euro NCAP rating from 2021 was earned by the closely related Volkswagen Caddy.

If you need more seats, the Tourneo Custom has eight as standard and nine as an option, in diesel, plug-in hybrid or electric E-Tourneo Custom form, with rear seats on rails that fold, tip forward or come out.

Used, a Ford Galaxy gives the most room: 300 litres with seven seats up, Isofix on all three individual middle-row seats and a third row Auto Express rates fine for grown-ups. The S-Max is lower, at 1,655mm tall against 1,747mm, with 285 litres behind its child-sized third row. Many Galaxys worked as private hire cars, so Auto Express advises checking for worn suspension and brakes and heavy cabin wear.
