Seven seats as standard and a third row reviewers rate for adults, but no Euro NCAP rating
Quick answer
Yes. Every UK X7 has seven seats as standard, with a six-seat layout using two individual second-row chairs available as an option.
Best for Adults in all three rows and heavy towing
The BMW X7 7-seater is one of the few SUVs whose third row reviewers rate for adults: Drive says even tall adults can travel comfortably back there. Both third-row seats have Isofix, as do the outer middle-row seats.
All three engines, the xDrive40i petrol, the xDrive40d diesel and the 530PS M60i, use mild hybrid assistance and an eight-speed automatic. The drawbacks are size, at 5,181mm long and 2,000mm wide before mirrors, and safety data, because Euro NCAP has never crash-tested the X7.

With all seven seats in use the boot holds 326 litres, the 9th largest of the 29 SUVs with a published boot figure and 86 litres more than the median. With five seats in use the boot holds 750 litres, rising to a maximum of 2,120 litres.
BMW X7 boot space is easy to overstate. BMW UK's model page describes its 750 to 2,120 litre range as applying with all three rows in use, but reviewers measure 750 litres with the third row folded. With all seven seats up, Auto Express and Drive both measure 326 litres, while carwow says 320 in its review and 300 on its specification page.
The third-row seats fold electrically, so switching between seven seats and the bigger load space needs no lifting. See how that compares in our 7-seater boot space comparison.
How it is measured BMW UK quotes 750 to 2,120 litres (basis not stated) and its model page describes that range as applying with all three rows in use, but reviewers measure 750 litres with the third row folded. The 326-litre seven-seat figure comes from Auto Express and Drive; carwow says 320 litres in its review and 300 on its specification page.
At 5,181mm (5.18m, 17ft 0in) long, the X7 is 307mm longer than the median SUV, and the 5th longest of the 37 SUVs we track. It is 2,000mm wide without mirrors (2,218mm with them) and 1,835mm tall. The wheelbase, the distance between the front and rear axles, is 3,105mm.
Third row suitsAdults
Drive says even tall adults can travel comfortably in the back row, while carwow suggests only very tall passengers will feel short of space and praises the thigh support. Auto Express finds the high floor makes climbing in awkward, though the gap is wide and the second row moves electrically. The third-row seats also fold electrically.
Reviewers rate the X7's third row for adults. Drive says even tall adults can travel comfortably back there, and carwow suggests only very tall passengers will feel short of space, praising the thigh support.
Getting in is the weak point. Auto Express finds the high floor makes climbing in awkward, although the gap is wide and the second row moves electrically. The optional six-seat layout swaps the middle bench for two individual chairs, which Auto Express says improves access. For rivals, see 7-seaters with the most third-row space.
4Isofix points
The X7 has four Isofix points: outer seats in row 2 and both seats in row 3. That is enough for three Isofix child seats, though whether three fit side by side depends on the seats you choose.
Gearbox: automatic only.

Our verdict The X7 is a full-size luxury SUV with a third row that reviewers rate for adults and Isofix on four seats. It is very large, has never been crash-tested by Euro NCAP and has 326 litres of boot with all seven seats up.
BMW X7 dimensions are the main practical drawback. BMW UK lists it at 5,181mm long, 2,000mm wide without mirrors (2,218mm with them) and 1,835mm tall, so measure your garage before ordering. Auto Express's 2023 review gave 5,151mm and 1,805mm, but BMW's current figures are the ones to plan around.
Towing is a strength: BMW UK rates all three engines at 3,500kg braked, although Auto Express's 2023 review quoted 2,200kg to 2,700kg, so confirm the limit for the exact car. Our car size comparison tool sets the X7 against other 7-seaters.

Yes. The third row is roomy enough for adults.
Yes. With seven seats you can have mild hybrid versions.
No. Euro NCAP has never crash-tested the X7, according to carwow and Auto Express, so there is no star rating to compare with other large SUVs.
It depends on who sits in the back. Seven seats are standard. The six-seat option replaces the middle bench with two individual chairs, which Auto Express says improves access to the third row; it cost £660 when Auto Express reviewed the car in 2023.
Keep seven seats if you regularly carry three across the middle row. Choose six if adults or older children use the third row often.
Auto Express reports that a next-generation X7 is in development. The current car is the first generation, facelifted in 2022.
