9-seater cars
The 9-seater cars on sale or coming soon in the UK are all van-based people carriers, such as the Ford Tourneo Custom, Toyota Proace Verso Electric and Citroen SpaceTourer. Nine seats, including the driver's, is as many as a standard car licence allows, so this is the most seats you can have without a minibus entitlement.
Only certain versions of each model have nine seats, usually as three rows of three, and the table below shows which. All of them are offered with electric power, and some with diesel too.

Living with a nine-seater
Check the length before you commit. The Citroen SpaceTourer and Toyota Proace Verso are 4,983mm long in their shorter form and 5,333mm in the longer one, and the SpaceTourer stands 1,890mm tall, which rules out some garages and multi-storey car parks. Electric ranges are modest for vehicles this size: officially 209 miles for the Ford E-Tourneo Custom, 214 for the Proace Verso Electric and 219 for the Peugeot E-Traveller, so the diesel Tourneo Custom may suit long trips better. It can also tow up to 2,500kg, against 2,000kg for the electric version.

Can you drive a 9-seater on a car licence?
Yes, on seat count. A standard UK car licence covers vehicles with up to eight passenger seats, which is what a nine-seater has once the driver's seat is counted. The licence also sets a weight limit, so check the vehicle's maximum authorised mass with the dealer, particularly for heavier electric versions.
Is there a 9-seater SUV?
