Omoda · 7-seater check

Short answer

Is there an Omoda 7-seater?

No, Omoda does not sell a 7-seater in the UK: its largest model, the Omoda 9, is a five-seat plug-in hybrid. The seven-seaters from the same Chery group are the Jaecoo 8 and Chery's Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9.

If you searched for an Omoda 7-seater, note that the 7 in the Omoda 7's name is a model number rather than a seat count.

Omoda belongs to the Chinese car maker Chery, which sells seven-seat SUVs here under two other badges: the Jaecoo 8 from Omoda's sister brand Jaecoo, and Chery's own Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9. Each is a plug-in hybrid or offers one, and reviewers rate their third rows best for children or short trips.

Omoda 9: five seats, no third row

Drive describes the Omoda 9 as a large five-seater, and Auto Express says it carries five adults relatively comfortably, with their luggage in a boot Omoda rates at 660 litres. Fold the 60:40 split rear seats and Omoda claims 1,783 litres.

Auto Express calls it a Volvo XC60-sized SUV, nearly 4.8 metres long, with a plug-in hybrid system using a 34.5kWh battery. Omoda claims up to 93 miles of electric range, and the 9 can tow a 1,500kg braked trailer. If five seats are enough, those are strong numbers; it simply has no third row.

Omoda 7-seater alternatives from the Chery group

The Jaecoo 8 is the nearest thing to a seven-seat Omoda: a large plug-in hybrid SUV from Omoda's sister brand. Only the Luxury trim has seven seats, as the Executive has six, with two captain's chairs in the middle row. Jaecoo quotes 200 litres of boot space with all three rows in use, but Auto Express and carwow quote 110 litres, and both say the third row is too small for most adults.

Chery sells two more under its own name. Every UK Chery Tiggo 8 has seven seats, with petrol or plug-in hybrid power, and it costs much less than the other two. The Tiggo 9 is a plug-in hybrid closely related to the Jaecoo 8. Reviewers say adults can manage the back row of either Tiggo on short trips, and Auto Express notes that it is best reached from the driver's side.

Crash tests and warranties

Check the crash-test position before you buy. Euro NCAP has not yet tested the Jaecoo 8 or the Tiggo 9, according to Auto Express, although Jaecoo's UK site promotes five-star safety. The Tiggo 8 holds a five-star Euro NCAP rating from 2025, awarded after Chery fixed a manufacturing fault that made a side curtain airbag deploy incorrectly.

Omoda and Jaecoo both offer a seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty, according to carwow and Jaecoo UK.

Questions and answers

Is the Omoda 9 a 7-seater?

No. The Omoda 9 has five seats: Drive calls it a large five-seater, and Omoda quotes a 660-litre boot behind the rear seats.

For seven seats from the same group, look at the Jaecoo 8, which is also a plug-in hybrid.

Is the Omoda 7 a seven-seater?

No. The 7 is part of the model name. Auto Express describes the Omoda 7 as the brand's second-largest car, with a 60/40 split rear bench, and even the bigger Omoda 9 is a five-seater.

Which Chery-group cars have seven seats?

The Jaecoo 8 has seven seats in Luxury trim and six in Executive trim. Every UK Chery Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9 has seven seats, and our Chery 7-seaters page lists both.
