Quick answer

Is the Renault Grand Scenic a 7-seater?

Yes. Every UK Grand Scenic IV has seven seats, though Honest John sees it as a 5+2 with an occasional third row.

The third row suits children and is awkward to reach, Honest John says, and standard 20-inch wheels spoil the ride.

Third row: who fits?

Third row suitsChildren

Honest John and Auto Express both see the back row as mainly for children, with adults only for short journeys. Honest John says it is awkward to get into. Sliding the middle bench forward frees more legroom at the back.

Euro NCAP safety rating

5 stars from Euro NCAP, tested in 2016. Ratings from different years are not directly comparable, as the tests get tougher over time.

Buying a used Renault Grand Scenic: what to check

  • Large alloys spoil the ride, says Honest John, and Carwow notes 20-inch wheels are standard (Honest John, Carwow)
  • Honest John finds the infotainment system disappointing in use (Honest John)
  • Honest John recommends the Blue dCi 120 diesel for its 300Nm of torque with a full load, while CarGurus prefers the dCi 160 for pace and towing (Honest John, CarGurus)
  • The middle row is a 60/40 bench rather than the three individual seats of the previous Grand Scenic (CarGurus)

When you view one: check the 20-inch rims and tyres for kerb damage, and fit your own child seats, because the Isofix positions were not confirmed in the sources we checked.
