Tesla · 7-seater check

Short answer

Is there a Tesla 7-seater?

No. Tesla does not sell a new right-hand-drive 7-seater in the UK: the Model Y seats five, and new Model X cars, which can have seven seats, have been left-hand drive only since 2023.

A right-hand-drive Tesla 7-seater means buying a used Model X, as Auto Express and carwow both report that new ones are left-hand drive only. If you want a new electric car with a third row, the SUVs below are the closest alternatives, ranked by official range, and our electric 7-seater cars page adds the people carriers.

Tesla Model Y: five seats in the UK

Tesla's UK site describes the Model Y as having seating for up to five, and carwow lists it as a five-seater, so UK buyers cannot order a third row.

It is still a practical family car if five seats are enough. carwow says its 854-litre cargo capacity puts almost every other mid-sized SUV to shame, and quotes 2,118 litres with the rear seats folded, two Isofix points in the back and a 1,600kg towing limit.

Tesla Model X: seven seats, left-hand drive

The Model X is the Tesla that can carry seven. carwow lists five-, six- and seven-seat layouts: the six-seater drops the centre seat in the middle row and adds two third-row seats, and the seven-seater puts that centre seat back. Auto Express says the rearmost seats are really only suitable for children, and carwow quotes 425 litres of boot space behind them, plus 187 litres under the bonnet.

The catch is the steering wheel. Auto Express reported in 2023 that Tesla would no longer sell the Model X in right-hand drive, and carwow says new cars are left-hand drive only, a layout it finds most awkward in town. A right-hand-drive seven-seater means an older used car, and because five- and six-seat versions were sold too, check the seat layout before you view one.

Electric alternatives to a Tesla 7-seater

Several new electric SUVs have seven seats and right-hand drive. Reviewers rate the third rows of the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9 as fit for adults, which the Model X's is not. The Peugeot E-5008 and Skoda Peaq are shorter and cost less, though their back rows suit teenagers and short trips better.

If easy access to the back matters more than an SUV shape, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz LWB has sliding side doors, and Auto Express says adults can get into its third row with dignity.

Questions and answers

Is there a 7-seater Tesla Model Y in the UK?

No. Tesla UK lists the Model Y with seating for up to five, and carwow also lists it as a five-seater, so there is no third-row option for UK buyers.

For a new electric SUV with seven seats, start with the Kia EV9 or browse every electric 7-seater.

Is the Tesla Model X a 7-seater?

It can be. carwow lists the Model X with five, six or seven seats, and Auto Express says the third row is really only suitable for children.

New Model X cars have been left-hand drive only since 2023, according to Auto Express and carwow, so a right-hand-drive seven-seater has to be a used car.

How much boot space does a 7-seat Tesla Model X have?

carwow quotes 425 litres behind the third row of six- and seven-seat cars, plus 187 litres in the front boot. Fold the rear seats and carwow quotes between 2,497 and 2,614 litres.
